My Grandma passed away a few weeks ago and today is her birthday. Now she wasn't the type to make a big fuss of her and she really didn't want a sad memorial services so we decided to get the immediate family together for a birthday dinner celebration. As the family baker I got asked to make simple cake that would honor her. I selected some of my favorite pictures of her and went to our local cake supply store and to have the pictures printed on editable rice paper. After making the cake and covering with white fondant, I cut the rice paper using my ruler and rotary blade. Regretfully I didn't cut on my cutting board, but on my cake mat and sliced right through it! So if you use any type of blade to cut the rice paper make sure to use a cutting board. I was very close with my Grandma so I wasn't sure I would be strong enough to get through the decorating without crying. As I Iaid the final picture on top the tears started to well up. I tried my best to finish the last details before they started to flow. I was very pleased with the way the cake turned out and I think my Grandma would have enjoyed it as much as the rest of the family did.
