As soon as I saw the dress online it instantly reminded me of her DVF dress. She only wore this dress twice that we know of back in 2011, I’ve always thought it was a pretty dress and would be fun to “repli-kate” it. This great Walmart find was the perfect shade of green, but the buttons were gunmetal and I wanted them to be gold to match hers so that was an easy fix. After I replaced the buttons I tried the dress on with the V and buttons towards the front as it was meant to be worn, but it reminded me of an old fashion nightgown. SO I decided to try something I have never done before and turned it backward. It then looked just like the Kate dress! Her dress had the same “V” along the back with the buttons and a high neckline on the front. The only major difference was major difference was the buttons on the DVF dress go all the way to the bottom and I didn’t want to have to cut the dress and re-sew it with a fold so the buttons would make sense. In the end, the dress was so comfortable and very classy, I even paired it with my “repli-Kate” temple earrings I purchased from another great Etsy shop just like the Duchess did and wore it to a charity dinner!
As many of my Instagram followers know I love the Duchess of Cambridge, formerly Kate Middleton’s style. I feel she is my generations, Princess Diana. The whole premise of my Etsy shop is replicating (or repli-kates as we say it) her jewelry. Even my blessing dress from a few years ago was inspired by her wedding dress. My birthday dress was inspired by her Black Lace dress too. Both of those were made from scratch, but I found my version of the DVF dress from all places but on Walmart for under $7!
