Camouflage Cupcakes

These vibrant cupcakes went along with the camouflage cake I posted about the other day.

To create the camouflage cupcakes I followed the same process I did with the wedding cake. I divided the batter into three bowls and colored them the three different colors; or six in this case. I then layered the colored batters with a small disher into the cupcake liners.

The grooms were the traditional camo colors, while the brides were the brighter colored ones. These colors were her favorite colors and used throughout the wedding. To frost the cupcakes, I used my method of filling three piping bags with a color and then putting them into a larger bag with a cupcake tip.

Camouflage Wedding Cake

Now I have made some fun and weird cakes in the past, but this camo wedding cake takes the cake! The couple was young and vibrant so when we had our cake consultation ideas were flying off the wall. At one point it was suggested to do a confederate flag (Future Hubby is from Georgia). Thankfully, I was able to persuade them to a traditional style wedding cake with an exciting twist. When the cake would be cut, it would reveal an army green camouflage pattern.

To create the layered camo cake, I divided the cake batter into three bowls and colored them a light tan, forest green, and army green, and chocolate. Using a disher I scooped out the different colors batter on laying on top of one another and repeated until all the pans were full.

After the cake layers were cool, I stacked the layers using three piping bags, each filled with buttercream in one of the same colors as the batter. I crumb coated the cakes using white buttercream to prevent the dark colors showing through the white fondant.
When each tier was covered in the fondant and secured in place, I piped the little details and added the yellow ribbon along the base of the tiers. Since this was an outdoor wedding and was going to be hot, I used fake colorful roses and succulents for the top and a few between the tiers.

The cake came out so beautifully and I wish I could have seen the look on their faces when the cut into it!

 Candyland Cupcakes

6/3/2016

One of my regular bakery clients asked me to make cupcakes for her daughters up and coming birthday party. This year’s theme was Candyland, how fun is that! She didn’t have a specific request for the design of the cupcakes just as long as they fit in with the theme and wanted vanilla and chocolate flavor. After looking at the original game, I decided to go with a simple but fun design. I bought bright colored cupcake liners and whipped up some butter cream frosting. Once the cupcakes were cooled and piped with a swirl of delicious buttercream I added gum drops, peppermint candies, hard candies or colorful sprinkles to all of the cupcakes. I couldn’t help but snap a picture of how beautiful they all looked together in the box!
